PGOA

On Sunday March 17, 2013 there will be an open carry walk on Main st in Brookville, PA. Starting at 1 pm and followed by a meet and greet at the Pinecreek Firehall where they will have hotdogs, hamburgers, French fries, and drinks available for purchase. This is a peaceful gathering of people to show their support of their second amendment rights and to show that firearms are not and not all firearm owners are scary, dangerous, or a threat.

If you would like anything modified or changed, just let me know.

Ok folks I have some responses from local law enforcement. Spoke with Jefferson county sheriff Gotwald and invited him to the walk. He said he supports what we are doing and there will be no opposition from him or his office. Also heard back from Brookville police chief Ken Dworek and he has no problems with what we are doing and welcomes the event. He requested that I mention that any weapons being transported in vehicles must be unloaded unless you have your permit. Also he informed me that we will have an officer from the department to shadow our event and help keep anyone who would try and cause problems away. He also has informed Brookville borough council so that they will be aware of the event in the event someone would call them about us walking. I had a member of Pinecreek volunteer fire department contact me also and offer their fire police to help us in crossing at the intersections so we can stay as a group. Chief Dworek said he is ok with us using fire police to ease traffic concerns. I am still waiting to hear back from rep Sam Smith and mayor Wonderling but I am hopeful they will return calls and will keep trying until I get a response.

The Pennsylvania Gun Owners Association was very fortunate to have as visitors at our November meeting, two members of an organization that we have come to know through our Facebook Page.  The “Front Sight Carry & Conceal” group came to our meeting, and availed us of their fast-growing weapons instruction/permit business, and the opportunities that will soon be in our geographical area.

People oft-times ask us while at different activities and venues where and when they can acquire a more thorough knowledge of firearms, since the State of PA does not require instruction for one to get a License To Carry Permit.  At last year’s Road Kill Cookout, we made a point of letting everyone that as the 2nd Amendment advocacy group we are, we would, henceforth, make it a point to try and help our members and the general public become better educated about weapon selection, use, and safety.

While we shall not endorse any private business or concern for profit during this endeavor, we would like to let you know what the “Front Sight Carry & Conceal” company will soon be offering in our area, since they have publicly endorsed us as an informative group, and are promoting our website and Facebook Page.

“Front Sight Carry & Conceal” provides a reasonably price ($75.00) instructional firearms/self-defense and safety course, and provides an avenue from-which you can be legal to carry in up to 39 states (at additional licensing fee requirements—around $60.00).  You are not required to get the additional permits, but, at the very-least, you will be in a much-more-qualified position after taking their class, to secure your PA permit and weapon that suits your need and interest.

In addition, “Front Sight Carry & Conceal” has promised to secure for every qualified person it signs up for one of their classes in our area, membership in our organization, The P.G.O.A.

Please call Mark @ 724-662-2709, or Bruce @ 330-307-7235 to register for a class, ask any questions, or to find out where other classes will be held.  We also understand there is an earlier class in the area as well.  Call the good folks at "Front Site!"

As stated above, The Pennsylvania Gun Owners Association does not endorse any particular company offering instruction.  We are simply providing our followers with information on availability.

At our next meeting (March 14th, 2013), President Woods will be appointing Committee Members, and possibly new Committees.  Please be in attendance.

To register for Hunter and Trapper Safety courses, log onto the PA Game Commission website and click on the "Education" choice.

As many members as are possible to participate in all parades are welcomed and encouraged to participate.  We need riders in Jerry's car and/or truck, CW's truck, people to walk carrying our banners, etc.  We want children of members walking with us as well, and we have ordered T-shirts for them to wear, better recognizing our Organization as Family-Oriented.  Hope to see you there, this is a special request!  Please come and be in parades with us!

On February 22, 2010, a new law took effect that applied state firearms laws to national parks and wildlife refuges across America.

The implementation of the new law, which the National Park Service (NPS) has planned for since passage of H.R. 627 last May, has so far been without major problems.  NPS management reports that it has worked with the 493 individual parks, promoting a consistent message on several key points:

  • Under the new law, every park is subject to all the firearms laws of the state (or states) where the park is located.
  • Park visitors must know and obey state laws, including knowing which state laws apply in parks (such as Yellowstone) that cross state boundaries.  (For information on state laws, go to www.nraila.org/gunlaws.)
  • The new law affects firearms possession, not use.  Laws regarding hunting, poaching, target shooting or any unlawful discharge remain unchanged.
  • It will remain unlawful to carry in certain locations, under a separate law that prohibits possession of any firearm in a "federal facility."
